Annually, the Graduate School awards student excellence in several competitions.  We are currently seeking nominations for highlighted Competitions and Awards listed below. For additional information on these competitions please contact the Center for Graduate Life at

Outstanding Master's Thesis Competition

The Outstanding Master's Thesis Award is presented annually in the fall semester. Faculty will be asked to nominate a student whose thesis has been accepted in partial fulfillment of master's degree requirements during the past two academic years and/or summer sessions.

Award: $250 and a plaque.

Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

The Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award recognizes students who are nominated by their faculty supervisors for their work as teaching assistants.  Two awards are presented, one at the Doctoral level, and one at the Master's level.  These two separate awards allow UNC Charlotte to recognize the different types of tasks and demands placed upon graduate teaching assistants at each level.  The awards are presented annually in the spring semester.

Award: A monetary award and a plaque.

Graduate Dean's Distinguished Dissertation Award

To be considered, applicants must have completed their doctoral degree requirements and dissertation during the period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016, inclusive. The Graduate School will verify eligibility. Faculty will be asked to nominate students for this award. Nominations are sought each spring semester.

Award: The winner will receive $1,000 and an engraved plaque.
