Are you spending hours formatting your thesis, dissertation, or other writing project?  If so, please join us for this advanced LaTeX/LyX workshop. LaTeX is one of the most practical text editing tools available for technical and scientific documentation. If you are new to LaTeX, want to learn how to write more quickly please attend this workshop. Students that bring a laptop with LaTeX and LyX already installed will benefit most from this talk.

In this workshop you will learn:

(1) LaTeX/LyX: Who, What, When, Where, How (basic install/processing (.tex/.lyx --> .pdf) steps (LaTeX/LyX))

(2) Your writing tool: (i) Overleaf.com, (ii) LaTeX on PC, (iii) LyX on PC.

(3) UNCC's thesis templates for LaTeX and LyX: (i) how to get them, (ii) what's in there, (iii) how to use them.

(4) Citations: tools for collating citations (JabRef as an example, Mendeley, and other tools available).

We will demonstrate some important problem solving techniques as they relate to LaTeX/LyX document formatting : (i) Google it!, (ii) learn by example, (iii) "vacuum" test, (iv) transform the problem space (let LyX solve your LaTeX problem).

Q & A: Comments on any LaTeX issues attendees are experiencing is discussed as time permits. Students are encouraged to consider trying LyX for writing LaTeX documents.

(Look for Part II of this workshop later this week! Dr. Willis will be back on Thursday from 11:15 to 12:15.)
