While the Graduate School confers degrees after each term (Spring, Summer, and Fall), Commencement at UNC Charlotte is held just twice annually, once in May and once in December. Students who graduate in Summer or Fall participate in the December Commencement ceremony. UNC Charlotte will honor all of our 2020 graduates (May, August and December) with a virtual celebration on Friday, January 8, 2021. The ceremony pre-show will begin at 5:49 p.m. with the ceremony premiering at 6:00 p.m.
PARTICIPATION IN THE CEREMONY
In order to participate (or "walk") in the Commencement ceremony, students must have successfully completed all degree requirements and submitted all required forms by the published deadlines, including the Online Graduation Application (please refer to the Registrar's Calendar for these deadlines). Students should expect to receive their diploma or certificate 6-8 weeks after the ceremony. (Be sure to update your email and mailing address through my.uncc.edu in order to receive important information updates as well as your diploma or certificate.)
- Detailed instructions on the ceremony can be found on the University's Commencement website.
- The Class of 2020 graduates may submit their cap and gown order online at Oak Hall beginning Monday, November 30, through Friday, January 29. Your student fees cover this basic regalia. If you would like to receive your cap and gown by Jan. 8, 2021, you must place your order by Dec. 21, 2020. For doctoral graduates, UNC Charlotte also offers custom regalia, which you must order and pay for through our special link to Oak Hall. For more information about custom regalia, see the Commencement site.
