UNC Charlotte – Division of Research Hiring Program

The UNC Charlotte Postdoctoral Hiring Program is intended to enhance our research excellence across campus as guided by the UNC Charlotte Strategic Plan, the Top-tier Research Excellence Report, and the Research Implementation Design. The program goals are to:

  • Enhance the productivity of our current and future faculty researchers, especially those with large multi-year awards
  • Directly increase annual research expenditures

Starting in the academic year 2023-24, this program will add up to 15 new, 2-year postdocs.

For more information, please see this announcement. Please direct questions to Dr. Deborah Thomas (deborah.thomas@charlotte.edu).

Postdoctoral Hiring Waivers

Given the nature of postdoctoral training experiences, postdoctoral scholars may be identified directly through national or international academic professional channels. Academic departments should publicize widely postdoctoral vacancies in order to identify qualified candidates and to promote equal opportunity. While open recruitment through the University’s Niner Talent system is preferred, it is not always required. Circumstances in which posting to Niner Talent can be bypassed include:

  • Program funding transfer: Proposed hire of a Principal Investigator (PI) or newly-hired faculty member is bringing project funding to UNC Charlotte along with the filled postdoc position.
  • Extreme time and/or funding constraints on project completion
  • The candidate for the position has completed a doctoral degree at UNC Charlotte within one calendar year of the start date
  • A specific applicant possesses a unique skill, knowledge, and/or ability

Actual employment is contingent upon presentation of satisfactory documentation of credentials prior to the effective date of the appointment. The candidate must undergo the same screening and appointment processes that are required of all postdoctoral scholars, regardless of whether the position was posted to Niner Talent. Please contact PostdocFellows@charlotte.edu if interested in utilizing the hiring waiver.

For international hires requiring immigration sponsorship, please consult with the International Student and Scholar Office regarding use of the J-1 visa.
