STEM Communication Fellows Program

The STEM Communication Fellows Program, which has been made possible by a Burroughs Wellcome Fund grant, was created in order to hone the communication skills of UNC Charlotte's STEM community. Through the Program, eight Fellows receive intense communication training and experiential learning opportunities, and the wider UNC Charlotte STEM community will benefit as well.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $3000 for the 2020-2021 academic year, as well as individual and professional communication coaching throughout the Program.

The Program consists of three components:

  • An eight-week virtual lecture and workshop series (see below) for the entire STEM community at UNC Charlotte will provide instruction and interaction around multiple communication formats ranging from policy papers to social media posts. Fellows are required to participate in each session of the series.
  • A collaborative group video in which each Fellow highlights their research through a short verbal pitch will be distributed to potential corporate partners and prospective students to showcase the groundbreaking research conducted at UNC Charlotte
  • A range of individual final project choices will allow the Fellows to apply what they have learned by preparing deliverables that will inform their career searches or enhance their personal brands on the job market.
